Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Max?
Max Barnett is a long-time friend, Board member and supporter of the YMCA. Born and raised in the Shoals, Max was instrumental in fundraising efforts through the Board of Directors in providing funding and services to members in need. Max was also an avid runner. We lost Max in 2020 to glioblastoma. Towards the end, Max found solace and peace in his daily runs. Through it all, Max kept his positive outlook and insisted on paying it forward. We are honored that Max’s wife, Whitney, chose to include YMCA of the Shoals as the primary beneficiary of the Trax4MAX proceeds.

For race-specific questions (where, when, how, what, why) please visit our race page on ItsYourRace.com.

Where will the award ceremony be held?
That’s easy! Where you finished with your PR!

I’d like to participate. Can I just walk?
Absolutely! We always have people who want to walk the 1 mile, so you will not be alone! We encourage walkers for the 1 mile.

I‘m part of a group that’s running together. Can I pick up everyone’s bib?
Yes! All you’ll need is their full name and everyone will be ready to trot on Thanksgiving!

Will you have t-shirts available in youth sizes?
We will have a limited number of youth sizes this year. If you need a youth-sized tee, be sure to indicate sizing when you register.

Will our family—one jogging and one pushing our child in a wheelchair—all start at 8:00 am?
You’ll all start at 8:00 or 8:15 am and we will absolutely love seeing you jog, walk, and roll your way to the finish line! Since the race is timed using RFID in the bib, your time starts when you cross the start line. However, to keep things safe for everyone, we ask that anyone not running start behind those who are.

Can I push my child in a stroller in the 1 Mile so they can participate?!
You may push your Tiny Tot and stroller in the 1 Mile Fun Run.

Can I pick up my bib the morning of the race?
Yes, you may pick up your bib in the parking lot of the first Baptist Church. Just make sure you get there early because we’ll close 15 minutes before the race with no exceptions.

Where do I park?
Street parking is available at no cost throughout downtown Florence.

May I run with my dog?
We welcome all fur babies but asked that they be properly restrained for safety reasons. Don’t forget to include them in the Costume Contest!

May I run with a stroller?
Absolutely! Strollers are more than welcome to join the race, but to keep things smooth and safe for everyone, we ask stroller-pushing participants to start at the back of the line. It’s like a stroller parade! We encourage strollers to be used only in the one mile fun run.

Are bikes, hoverboards, scooters, skateboards, push bikes, unicycles or wagons allowed on course?
We’re sorry, but only runners, joggers, walkers, baby strollers/joggers, restrained pets and wheelchairs are allowed.

YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE 5th ANNUAL TRAX4MAX TURKEY TRAX OFFERS POSSIBLITIES FOR ALL!

We have a lot of fun with Trax4MAX but when people in our Shoals community have unmet needs, it’s no laughing matter. Your registration, sponsorship, or donation supports the scholarship programs here at YMCA of the Shoals. These scholarships allow children and their families to have access to safe and affordable childcare when otherwise, it might not be available. Funding also provides access to FREE swim lessons for children in our community.

We appreciate and value your generosity and support and look forward to hosting you each year as we bring a community together for a good cause in memory and honor of our friend, Max Barnett.
